Gudi Padwa Recipes 2022

What is Gudi Padwa Recipes 2022?

Gudi Padwa, or Gudi Padava, is a festival that takes place on the first day of Chaitra (a month of the Hindu calendar).

Gudi Padwa Recipes

It celebrates the beginning of the new year, and in some regions, it’s also connected to Good Friday (since they fall on the same day).

The name Gudi Padwa comes from Sanskrit, meaning the coming of age of Lord Murugan—the Hindu god associated with prosperity, power, and knowledge—to his temple in Tamil Nadu after his birth.

Gudhi Padva Recipe

The most traditional dish eaten on Gudi Padva is Kapu Vada.

The dish is made from dal, yogurt, and mung daal.

Traditionally, it was eaten during nighttime as there was a belief that having kapu vada would protect one from evil spirits and black magic.

It was also believed that eating kapu vada on Gudi Padva will ensure prosperity for your family in the future.

To make Kapu Vada, soak 1 cup of split Bengal gram (chana dal) overnight. Add 1/2 cup of grated coconut to it and grind into a coarse paste along with 2 green chilies (finely chopped), 1 tsp ginger-green chili paste, salt to taste, and some water to get a semi-thick batter.

1) Khakhra Recipe

Gudi Padwa Recipes

Khakhra is a thin, crisp and savory Gujarati snack usually made from wheat flour, jaggery, and salt.

The real gudi padwa recipes also contain spices and chilies. Khakhra, like any other recipe in India, varies across regions.

Its preparation method is quite similar to that of paratha or bhakri but with slight variation in the number of ingredients and oil used for frying it.

2) Vadi Recipe

Gudi Padwa Recipes

Vadi is a typical Maharashtrian recipe prepared on the day of gudi padva or Gudi Parva.

Made from rice flour, Vadi is usually served with peanut chutney and jaggery (gur). Vadi has quite a few variations like dhokla, poha cutlet, and so on.

Adding pomegranate seeds makes it extra special.

3) Alu Vadi Recipe

What’s your favorite Indian dish? The tandoori chicken, channa masala, or maybe a hearty dal will always hit the spot.

But here in Gujarat, we’re extra fond of all Vadi—small pockets of stuffed potatoes! In fact, everyone loves them so much that it’s customary to eat alu Vadi during Gudi padwa, our very own New Year.

Here’s an easy recipe for you to try at home.

Seer dal is another easy-to-make dal that can be prepared in less than 15 minutes. You’ll have a delicious side dish that goes great with rice, naan, or roti.

Seer Dal Fry Recipe is one of my personal favorite recipes among Gudi padwa recipes.

It also tastes great when cooked without any garnish and relished alone.

Rajma is a dish consisting of red kidney beans, slow-cooked with onion, garlic, ginger, and tomatoes.

It is usually eaten with rice or roti. Rajma Masala, which literally translates to kidney bean curry in Hindi, is also a delicacy from Rajasthan (the desert state of India).

8) Laccha Paratha Recipe

If you’re wondering how to celebrate Gudi Padwa, or just looking for a way to incorporate Indian flavors into your diet, these Laccha Parathas (Potato stuffed flatbread) will be an excellent option.

If you haven’t made parathas before, don’t worry—the process is quite simple.

On Gudi Padwa (the first day of India’s New Year), people eat a hearty vegetarian dish called aloo posto to celebrate (and because it’s delicious).

A thick, comforting stew of lentils and potatoes, aloo posto is an easy-to-make recipe that will warm you up from head to toe.

Gudi Padwa Recipes

To make gudi padwa pulao, you will need basmati rice, potatoes, peas, and a few spices.

First, wash your rice thoroughly in cold water until there is no smell of chlorine or starch left. Wash and clean your vegetables, as well. Once cleaned keep them aside.
